President Şeker Was Elected a Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan
TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker has been elected a Foreign Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which operates under the Presidency of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In a statement, it was noted that Prof. Dr. Şeker’s election to this position reflects international recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of morphometric anatomy, as well as his research on vascular and skeletal structures, neuroanatomy, and fetal anatomy. It was also emphasized that Prof. Dr. Şeker’s leadership in the field of science policy and his contributions to the development of cooperation between TÜBA and the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan are of great value.
Akhylbek Kurishbayev, President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, expressed his satisfaction and congratulations to Prof. Dr. Şeker on his election as a member. He noted that this lifetime membership, granted in accordance with the rules governing the election of foreign members of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, recognizes Prof. Dr. Şeker’s outstanding and sustained achievements in original research and his significant contributions to the advancement of science in Kazakhstan. He also emphasized that this is one of the highest scientific honors that can be bestowed upon foreign scientists in the Republic of Kazakhstan. President Kurishbayev expressed his hope that Prof. Dr. Şeker would actively participate in the Academy’s scientific activities and engage in joint efforts to advance research, innovation, and international scientific cooperation, and extended his best wishes and congratulations to TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker on his new appointment.
The Academy also noted that this membership would contribute to cooperation between the scientific communities of the two countries through joint research, academic exchange, and initiatives in the field of science within the Turkic world.
President Şeker, meanwhile, made the following remarks regarding his election as a member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan: “I am deeply honored. I believe this valuable recognition is not only a testament to our scientific work but also a sign of the trust placed in our efforts to strengthen scientific cooperation between Türkiye and Kazakhstan. In the coming period, we will continue to contribute to joint research and academic exchange among scientists from both countries, as well as to the strengthening of scientific cooperation within the Turkic world. I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Akhylbek Kurishbayev, President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and to the members of the Academy for this meaningful recognition.”
Who is Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker?
TÜBA President, Professor Dr. Muzaffer Şeker, was born in İzmir in 1961. He graduated from Uludağ University Veterinary Faculty in 1986. Subsequently, Prof. Şeker earned his Ph.D. in Human Anatomy at the University of Leicester, Faculty of Medicine in England, in 1995. He achieved the position of associate professor in 2000 and was promoted to full professorship in 2006.
Throughout his career, Prof. Şeker worked as an instructor in the United Arab Emirates for two years and held the position of the Head of the Department of Medical Education and Informatics at the Meram Faculty of Medicine at Selçuk University. He played a crucial role as a member of the Founding Board of Trustees of Istanbul Medipol University from 2008 to 2010. Prof. Şeker also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration.
In December 2014, he was appointed as the founding rector of Konya Necmettin Erbakan University and served a second term in that role. Prof. Şeker has been actively involved in various academic and administrative positions, including serving as a TÜBİTAK Science Council Member, Interuniversity Council (ÜAK) Medical Health Education Council Member, Ministry of Health Board Member of Health Tourism, InterUniversity Council (ÜAK) Associate Professorship Council Member, Higher Education Council (YÖK) Disabled Education Member, KOP Regional Universities Association (UNIKOP) former president, Executive Board of the University Hospitals Association, Ahmet-Nezahat Keleşoğlu Education Foundation Board of Trustees Member, Selçuk Autism Individuals Education Foundation (SOBE) Founding Trustee Member, İstanbul Science and Education Foundation (İSİLEV) Founding Trustee member, Birlik Vakfı Advisory Board Member, and İNNOPARK Board of Directors Member. He has also served on the selection committees of Türkiye Institutes of Health Administration (TÜSEB) Aziz Sancar Science, Service, and Incentive Awards; YÖK Doctorate Awards; TÜBA-GEBİP Awards; and TÜBİTAK Science, Service, and Incentive Awards.
He started his term as President of TÜBA in 2019. In addition to his administrative roles, Prof. Şeker has represented his country at the Science’20 Summits, World Science Forum, and many other international scientific events. Prof. Muzaffer Şeker is married and has three children.
