Sadullah Enverî served intermittently five times as a vakāyi’nüvis (or, in modern terms, as an “official state historian”) during the reigns of Mustafa III, Abdülhamid I, and Selim III. During this time, he authored a voluminous three-volume work that stands as one of the primary sources of Ottoman history. The third volume of the Enverî Târîhi primarily contains information regarding the Ottoman-Russian and Ottoman-Austrian wars of 1786–1787 and 1791–1792. The work also includes various other details pertaining to this period beyond the wars. In the first section of the work, data obtained from archival documents regarding Sadullah Enverî’s life is combined with the writings of other chroniclers and researchers to strengthen the author’s biography, while In the second chapter, Enverî’s three-volume history book is introduced, and the first, second, and third volumes of the work, along with known copies of the book, are examined in detail. The third chapter, however, does not include information on the sources cited in the third volume. Furthermore, information likely to appeal to a broad audience has been compiled and brought together here. The study is regarded as one of the key source texts for those seeking to understand Ottoman history and conduct various studies on the subject.
