Hesâb-ı Nazarî

An Ottoman intellectual who took an interest in many fields such as mathematics, education, literature, politics and wrote numerous articles on these topics for newspapers and magazines noted, “Almost all of the mathematical work of Mehmet Nadir, professor of the Theory of Numbers chair at the Faculty of Science of Darülfünun, falls within the field of number theory, and his works have made significant contributions to this field.” Mehmet Nadir, one of the mathematicians of the late Ottoman Empire, included a transliteration into the Latin alphabet and an evaluation of his book on number theory in his work Hesâb-ı Nazarî. We can say that, in terms of the topics covered and the manner in which they are addressed, Hesâb-ı Nazarî stands as a unique example in the field of number theory within the Ottoman Empire.
