Hekimbaşı Hayatizade Mehmed Emin Efendi Döneminde Osmanlı Sarayında Uygulanan İlaç Terkipleri
'The work, presented to the scholarly world under the title İlaç Terkipleri, is a rare example of its kind. It is not an original treatise, but rather consists of formulas for simple and compound medicines in which theoretical knowledge in the fields of medicine and pharmacy was put into practice at the Ottoman Palace under the supervision of the chief physicians. The work is a manuscript register containing prescriptions for medicines frequently prepared in the palace infirmaries and pharmacies in the 18th century for the sultan, princes, princesses, consorts, members of the harem and other palace personnel, as well as prominent statesmen such as the grand vizier, shaikh al-islam, and the darüssaade aghas, among others. Hundreds of prescriptions for medicines prepared and tested for the purposes of disease prevention and treatment, including pastes, sherbets, waters, enemas, pills, lozenges, powders, gargles, ointments, oils, spirits, elixirs, poultices, plasters, and fumigations, were recorded in the register and, as stated at the beginning of the register, those that were found effective were included. Serving as an important reference for researchers of the history of medicine, practitioners of traditional and complementary medicine, and those conducting clinical research, the register also mentions numerous sources and works, as well as chief physicians, physicians, pharmacists, surgeons, and other individuals, in addition to Mehmet Emin Efendi.
