Fenn-i Terbiye

Fenn-i Terbiye is the first work on pedagogy written in Turkish by Sâtı Bey (1880–1968). Sâtı Bey was an influential figure in both the fields of education and politics; during his time, he not only authored theoretical texts on educational reform but also had the opportunity to put these ideas into practice at the institutions he administered. Until 1919, Sâtı Bey was a political supporter of Ottomanism; after that date, however, he broke away from the Ottoman Empire and became a philosophical and political advocate of Arab nationalism. This book contains not only the translation of Fenn-i Terbiye prepared by Abdulhalim Koçkuzu but also a detailed introduction by Cahid Şenel and Abdessamed Taibi covering Sâtı Bey’s life, works, and political views. The volume also includes a detailed bibliography of Sâtı Bey’s books and articles in both Arabic and Turkish.
