Eğinli Nu‘mân Efendi’nin Tebyînü A‘mâli’l-Misâha’sı

Tebyînü A‘mâli’l-Misâha, by Eğinli Nu‘mân Efendi, one of the Ottoman scholars of the 18th century, is considered the first Turkish book on land surveying of European origin. The work, which is of exceptional value from the perspective of the history of mathematics, presents each measurement model proposed by Nu‘mân Efendi by first explaining it and then demonstrating the validity of the method he proposes through examples within the scientific culture of the period. While the systematic arrangement of the information presented in the work is noteworthy, it can be seen that each new piece of information is established on the basis of the preceding one. In this way, the work is made readily comprehensible to its readers while also gaining their confidence.
