Aziz Sancar Science and Incentive Awards from TÜSEB to TÜBA-GEBİP Members
2013 TÜBA-GEBİP Member Asst. Prof. Deniz Atasoy, 2014 TÜBA-GEBİP Member Assoc. Prof. Özgür Şahin and 2016 TÜBA-GEBİP Member Assoc. Prof. Pınar Yılgör were awarded with Aziz Sancar Science and Incentive Awards, given by TÜSEB for the first time in this year on the behalf of TÜBA Honoray Member Prof. Aziz Sancar.
A total of six awards were presented by Health Minister Ahmet Demircan at a ceremony held in Istanbul on October 28. Asst. Prof. Deniz Atasoy was awarded for her researchs in physiology, and Assoc. Prof. Özgür Şahin and Assoc. Prof. Pınar Yılgör Huri were awarded for their researches in cancer.
In his speech, TÜBA Principal Member and TÜSEB President Prof. Fahrettin Keleştemur said that Prof. Aziz Sancar, a Nobel Prize-winning scientist, sent a written message about the fact that he wanted to connect to the ceremony via teleconference system but he worried that his Turkish would be insufficient.
Health Minister started his speech by declaring that Turkey needs educated and developed people. He also added: “Turkey is coming together again with the people it sent to grow in the world. We are the people who owe humanity and Turkey. Of course, we will pay this debt. We are in a period of recovery. The most important step is to participate in the production of knowledge. Signs such as Aziz Sancar will be lit on the way. We will make our way faster as they show.”
