TÜBA-TÜBİTAK Uzbekistan Aziz Sancar Research Fellowship Programme is Now Open to Call
Applications are now open for the first term of 2026 within the scope of the TÜBA-TÜBİTAK Uzbekistan Aziz Sancar Research Fellowship Programme, which is carried out in cooperation with TÜBA and the TÜBİTAK Directorate of Science Fellowships and Grant Programmes (BİDEB). Candidates will be able to submit their applications through the online application system until 14 August 2026 and will be able to access detailed information about the application conditions and the program on the relevant call page.
The program aims to enable young researchers from Uzbekistan to benefit from Türkiye's strong scientific research infrastructure, to develop academic cooperation between the two countries, and to encourage joint scientific studies.
TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker said that they attach great importance to fostering scientific cooperation between Türkiye and Uzbekistan: 'At TÜBA, we believe that supporting scientific excellence, encouraging young researchers, and strengthening international science diplomacy are among our key priorities. The TÜBA-TÜBİTAK Uzbekistan Aziz Sancar Research Fellowship Programme will promote the exchange of scientific knowledge between the two countries, which share a common history and culture, and foster the development of a shared research culture. We believe that this Programme, named after our honorary member and Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar, will significantly contribute to the establishment of long-term academic cooperation between Türkiye and Uzbekistan, while inspiring young researchers.
The researchers entitled to receive support under the Programme will be given a monthly scholarship to cover their living expenses in Türkiye. Travel expenses to and from the country will be covered, and annual support will be provided for the academic advisor. The host institution will also contribute towards the use of its laboratory infrastructure for the research. Doctoral students will receive support for between six and twelve months, while postdoctoral researchers will receive support for between twelve and thirty-six months.
Researchers who are citizens of Uzbekistan and permanently resident in Uzbekistan will be able to apply for the program. Doctoral students must continue their doctoral education at a higher education institution in Uzbekistan in the areas specified in the call and have successfully completed the doctoral qualification stage or have reached an advanced stage in their research. Postdoctoral researchers are required to have a doctoral degree in the fields specified in the call. The program will be open to research in the fields of basic sciences, engineering sciences, astronomy, earth and space sciences, information technologies, agricultural sciences and international relations, political history, educational sciences, and social sciences, including Ali Shir Nevai research. Within the scope of the program, the host institution where the researches will be carried out and the academic advisor in Türkiye will be determined by the TÜBA-TÜBİTAK Uzbekistan Aziz Sancar Research Fellowship Programme Selection Committee.
