TÜBA Principle Member and Gazi University Law Faculty Teaching Staff Member Prof. Dr. İzzet Özgenç was appointed to the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) on December 9, 2014.

In the statement released by the country’s Presidency it was reported that Gazi University Faculty of Law Teaching Staff Member Prof. Dr. İzzet Özgenç was appointed to the vacant Council of Higher Education (YÖK) Membership in accordance with subclause 2 of clause (b) of article 6 in the Higher Education Law No. 2547.

Who is Prof. Dr. İzzet Özgenç?
While working at the Gazi Üniversitesi Faculty of Law he was appointed to acting chairman in YÖK in the beginning of 2008. After completing the İstanbul Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi he worked as an assistant to Ord. Prof. Dr. Sulhi Dönmezer. Later at the  Selçuk Üniversitesi Law Faculty he achieved the titles of Assistant Assoc. Prof. and Doçent. At the Gazi University Law Faculty where he started working in 2001 he achieved the title of Profesör in 2006. He continues to give Criminal Law classes at the Gazi University Law Faculty.

Prof. Dr. İzzet Özgenç, along with Prof. Dr. Adem Sözüer, is one of the main architects of the Turkish Criminal Law Reform which went into effect in 2005. With his book called TCK Gazi şerhi (Gazi Annotation on the Turkish Criminal Law) he explained the new Turkish Criminal Law in detail and this book has become an important reference for lawyers.

In 2007 2007 he was chosen for YÖK from the Council of Ministers contingent and this selection was approved by the President at the time Ahmet Necdet Sezer. Following Yusuf Ziya Özcan being YÖK Chairman, he was brought to the position of acting YÖK Chairman in 2008 by General Assembly election.

Prof. Dr. İzzet Özgenç, who is also a Bezmiâlem Vakıf Üniversitesi Board of Trustees member, was elected to TÜBA Principle Membership in 2012.
