TÜBA President and Members of the Academy Council Visit İsmail Kahraman, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye

TÜBA President Prof.    Ahmet Cevat Acar and members of the Academy Council visited TGNA Speaker İsmail Kahraman on August 3, 2016, and expressed their thanks to the TGNA in the person of Mr. Kahraman for its honorable behavior in the process of attempted coup, standing behind the national will.

“Stability in Türkiye is key to the world and regional peace”
TGNA President İsmail Kahraman said Türkiye was saved from the brink of a disaster and a precipice on July 15, and added, “The reaction you displayed, and your efforts for solidarity and cooperation made us all very happy. We have come together as a nation.”

Kahraman said everyone acted as one body regardless of their political views, adding “Yourself and other civil society organizations displayed great sensibility. Our armed forces, law enforcement, citizens, and press have all played important roles in the prevention of this attempted coup. God willing, we will never experience such bad days again. As Türkiye develops and progresses, it faces attempts to stop its advance. But we kept developing and progressing. Mind you, we keep receiving one blow, then another just when we were about to take-off.”

İsmail Kahraman remarked that a joint declaration was made, signed by all four parties in the Assembly, and added, “We left our badges behind, and came together with our hearts and hands. That is what we need. We need to develop this culture.”

“We stand with democratic legal order”
TÜBA President Prof. Ahmet Cevat Acar said they condemned the traitorous attack on the solidarity, welfare, and democracy of the country.

Prof. Acar wished a speedy recovery to the TGNA, and added, “We always stand with the TGNA, the castle of national will, and with the democratic legal order of Türkiye. We will never accept any terrorist, illegal organization or insurrection, under any conditions, and we give our full support to uncompromising efforts to eliminate such organizations and actions.”

Prof. Acar said they would always stand with policies and practices to improve Türkiye’s unity, development and survival, expressed his condolences for the martyrs and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, adding “We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all officials from the President downwards, to elements of the Turkish Armed Forces that remained loyal to the constitutional order, to our police, and to unsung heroes. One gain from this process has been the expanded continuation of the national consensus. We should cherish this consensus.”
