TÜBA Member Prof. Dr. Ergun Özbudun Passed Away
TÜBA Honorary Member and Constitutional Lawyer Prof. Dr. Ergun Özbudun passed away on November 1, 2023 at the age of 86.
The funeral was held at the Kocatepe Mosque after the noon prayer on November 1, and the burial took place in Karşıyaka Cemetery after the funeral prayer. We wish Allah's mercy to Prof. Dr. Ergun Özbudun and our condolences to his grieving family and loved ones. May his place be heaven...
Who is Prof. Dr. Ergun Özbudun?
He was born on July 1, 1937 in Ankara. He completed his undergraduate and doctorate degrees at Ankara University Faculty of Law. Between 1988 and 2012, he worked as a faculty member at Bilkent University. In the 2011-2012 academic year, he worked at Istanbul Şehir University, first part-time and then full-time. He has taught as a research fellow at Harvard University and as a visiting professor at the universities of Chicago, Princeton, Columbia, Georgetown and Paris Sorbonne. Originally a constitutional professor, Özbudun has also written many articles and books on political parties. He was a member of the Council of Europe's Commission on Democracy through Law, also known as the Venice Commission. In 1996, he was elected a Full Member of TÜBA, and in 2007 he became an Honorary Member due to his age.
Fluent in English and French, Özbudun has written many scientific articles and books in these languages; Özbudun's works are taught as textbooks in law faculties.
