TÜBA is Celebrating its 22nd Year…

Founded on September 2, 1993 TÜBA started operating on January 7, 1994 and has been continuing operations for 22 years while maintaining its scientific, administrative and financial autonomy.

The Academy’s first President Prof. Dr. Ayhan O. Çavdar and second President Prof. Dr. Engin Bermek carried out their duties for two terms in a row, a total of eight years. The next president to be elected, Prof. Dr. Yücel Kanpolat, served as the Academy president from 2008 to 2012 and as a result of the elections held in the TÜBA general assembly of June 2015 Ağustos Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar, who had been appointed in 2012, was re-elected for a second term.

TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar, who pointed out that TÜBA, celebrating its 22nd year as of 2015, acts with an awareness for the importance of the responsibility undertaken as Turkey’s national academy and added: “As in all other academies in the world TÜBA has converged 205 scientists who have guided society with their scientific work under the same roof. TÜBA carries out its responsibility of providing scientific counsel to the community and the country governance in scientific matters, which is the main purpose for its foundation, with great meticulousness. The Academy organizes stem cell, cancer and science education programs, conferences and seminars by academy members and leading scientists of our country, conducts international work with science academies and umbrella organizations of science academies, has publication operations as well as grant programs to encourage and support scientists and other work covering all of the fields of positive and social sciences to increase the level of contributions to science and technology throughout the world.

As an academy we conduct all of these activities with the motivation we gain from knowing the indisputable reality of how the power of science can change the community, therefore the country and finally the world.”
