TÜBA Honorary Member Prof. Dr. Halil İnancık was presented the 'Cemil Meriç Award' in the field of History

TÜBA Honorary Member Prof. Dr. Halil İnalcık was given an award in the field of history within the scope of the ‘II. National Cemil Meriç Awards and Contributions to Social Peace Awards’ presented by the Mustafa Kemal University (MKU).

Awards were presented by the MKU Thought and Cultural Studies Application and Research Center to individuals who had contributed to Hatay Province and MKU at the national level, in terms of thought, culture, literature, sociology, history and translation as well as social peace, in a ceremony. In the speech made by the Rector Prof. Dr. Hüsnü Salih Güder at the award ceremony in the Atatürk Conference Room, he expressed what significance contributions beyond all admiration had been made by the award recipients to society with the intellect, knowledge, accumulation and leadership of communities, and said that this award could never repay the work that was accomplished by these valuable individuals.

The Cemil Meriç Awards, which were given for the first time in 2013, are given for work in the fields of thought and culture, literature, sociology, history and translation at a national level, for contributions to thought and culture throughout Hatay and the Mustafa Kemal University. In this context the award in the field of history was given to Prof. Dr. Halil İnalcık, for sociology the award was given to Prof. Dr. Şerif Mardin, awards in the category of adding value to Hatay were given to Mehmet Celalettin Lekesiz, Head of The General Directorate of Security and Sadullah Ergin, Former Minister of Justice and AK Party Hatay Parliamentarian, in the category of adding value to MKU Utku Acun, former governor of Hatay was presented with an award, in the category of thought and culture the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency Directorate (TİKA) was given an award, Prof. Dr. Orhan Okay was given an award for his contributions to the Turkish Language and Literature and researcher-writer Mehmet Tekin was given an award in the category of thought and culture in Hatay.
