TÜBA Held a Panel on “Taşköprülüzâde Ahmed Efendi’s Place in the History of Science and Thought” at Kastamonu, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2018

The Panel on “Taşköprülüzâde Ahmed Efendi’s Place in the History of Science and Thought” organized under the activities at Kastamonu, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2018 by TÜBA and Kastamonu University was held on May 10, 2018 at Kastamonu University.

The panel, where TÜBA President Prof. Ahmet Cevat Acar, Kastamonu University Rector Seyit Aydın, Kastamonu Mayor Tahsin Babaş, and TÜBA Members attended, was followed by academicians, students and interested people.

Wishing success for Kastamonu chosen as Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2018, TÜBA President Prof. Acar said: “As TÜBA, We have decided to organize a number of scientific events in the context of the Kastamonu, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2018. In this direction, besides this panel which is organized about Taşköprülüzâde Ahmed Efendi who is one of the most productive personalities of Turkish history and one of the most important figures in the history of Turkish science and thought about 600 years ago, we will hold the “The Union of National Academies of Sciences of the Turkic World (TDUBAB) Summer School on International Law, Diplomacy and Cooperation” between 16-20 July.

“It is difficult for nations, who do not know history enough, to plan their present and future.”
Emphasizing that we have an important past as a nation, Prof. Acar continued his words: “I think that we have not done enough to let our important values like Taşköprülüzâde Ahmed Efendi be revealed and transferred to the future. It is difficult for nations, who do not know history enough, to plan their present and future. In this context, we, as Academy, have launched the “Turkish – Islamic Scientific Cultural Heritage” project, which has been also taken under the auspices of the Presidency. Like this project, I think that this kind of panel is important for the development of our national consciousness. Knowledge of history is also important in matters we need in other areas. Today, our country with other Islamic countries is faced with a postmodern hybrid war that is not seen in recent history. In these conditions, I think that it is a national debt that falls to all of us as the Turkish nation, not acting on behalf of our differences but taking into our common points with showing necessary importance and loyalty to our national integrity, unity and independence. It is important to remember that increasing the performance in terms of alliance, cooperation and solidarity in every area, from micro level to macro level, is a vital aspect. There is no another country, there is no another Turkey. I would like to remind myself and everyone that culture, science and art have a particularly decisive role and universities, scientific institutions and scientists play a critical role in the innovation performance of our country. In this sense, giving priority to increasing the quality and performance issues in Turkey is a vital necessity. We have to catch up qualitative success in education and science fields, as we have caught quantitative growth success in these fields. Otherwise, the cost will be high. I would like to thank Prof. Seyit Aydin, Rector of Kastamonu University, Tahsin Babaş, Mayor of Kastamonu and Yaşar Karadeniz, Governor of Kastamonu for their valuable cooperation.

Prof. Acar also expressed his suggestion that the name of the hall where the panel was realized can be changed as “Taşköprülüzâde Ahmed Efendi”. Rector Prof. Aydın stated that they would gladly accept this suggestion.
