TÜBA Council Member Prof. Dr. H. Tayfun Özçelik was Given the ‘Gülhane Academy Medical Award’

TÜBA Council Member and Bilkent University Science Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. H. Tayfun Özçelik was presented with the Gülhane Military Medical Academy’s “Gülhane Academy Medical Award”.

The Medical Award, presented to Prof. Dr. Özçelik by the Gülhane Military Medical Academy in the scope of the “1st Gülhane Medicine and Arts Awards” started this year on April 30, 2015 was given to him for his work in the genetic roots of Üner Tan Syndrome and other international and national revolutionary work in the field of genetics. Artist Ferhat Göçer was also presented the “Gülhane Academy Arts Award”.

Prof. Dr. Tayfun Özçelik, who is still the dean of the Bilkent University Science Faculty and a TÜBA Council Member and the first Turk among the 22 scientists for whom “a statue of their work” has been erected at the Stanford University in the USA, was elected as a TÜBA Principle Member in 2009 and also received the TÜBİTAK Science Award in 2012.

The Gülhane Academy Medical Award

The Gülhane Academy Medical Awards aims to announce and introduce scientists who accomplish important work in the field of medicine and create awareness to both medical faculty students and to all of Turkey.

When considering recipients for the Gülhane Academy Medical Award the condition that they have contributed at a universal level to science is sought in evaluating the scientist’s research and service as a whole.

In the course of the evaluation, the research of the candidates which have been published in journals on the Science Citation Index, the number of references made to their publications and data supporting their scientific evaluation is taken into account.

There is no prerequisite to the Gülhane Academy Medical Award concerning age or having to be at a certain academic stage. The Science award is only given to living scientists.
