TÜBA Council Member Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Keleştimur Appointed As TÜSEB President

TÜBA Council Member and former rector of  Kayseri Erciyes University Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Keleştimur has been appointed for presidency of the Turkish Health Institutions (TÜSEB) on June 15.

Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Keleştimur resigned from his rector position at Erciyes University and became the President of Turkey’s first TÜSEB, which has its headquarter in Istanbul.

Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Keleştimur, being appointed as the President of TÜSEB which was founded to make research on medical technologies and sciences, coordinate these researches, promote such research, contribute to R&D and to carry out medical service accreditation, stated  that he would do all he could to see this big project succeed, and hopes that TÜSEB’s work will be beneficial to Turkey and all humanity and thanked everyone who took part in it from the initial idea to the present day.

Who is Prof. Dr. H. Fahrettin Keleştimur?
H. Fahrettin Keleştimur, born in 1955 in Elazig, graduated from Elazig Ataturk High School in 1972, and completed his education in Hacettepe University Medical Faculty in 1979. After he completed his studies at Erciyes University Medical Faculty on internal diseases between 1980 and 1984, he completed his military service and his compulsory service in Erzurum and Gediz-Kutahya respectively. In 1988 he started work as an assistant professor in Erciyes University Medical Faculty Internal Diseases Department and was appointed to found the endocrinology department. In the same year he worked in Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty Endocrinology clinic and in 1990 London University Medical Faculty St. Bartholomew’s Hospital endocrinology department. In 1990 he acquired the title of associate professor and in 1995 the title of professor. H. Fahrettin Keleştimur, whose main fields are neuroendocrinology and reproductive endocrinology, has focused his research in the last years on endocrinal response to stress and especially brain damage caused by head trauma and neuroendocrinal changes caused by this. Keleştimur and his team have been the first to discover that combat sportsmen can develop hypophysis deficiency. These findings have been regarded as “endocrine discovery”.

He is still a member of the editorial board of many national and international journals (Growth Hormone and IGF Research, Experimental and Clinical Endocrinology and Diabetes, Expert Review of Endocrinology and Metabolism, World Journal of Diabetes, Hormones Journal, Endocrine, Clinical Endocrinology, Frontiers in Pituitary Endocrinology, British Journal of Medicine and Medical Research). In August 2002 and May 2005 he was twice a guest lecturer at Trier University’s Psychobiology Department for his work on “Stress-related bodily disorders”, in May 2006 in Oxford University’s Medical Faculty Endocrinology Department on “Polycystic ovary syndrome”, and on March 2007 in Cleveland Clinic Department of Endocrinology “Non-classic causes of hypopituitarism”. Between 2006 and 2008 he had the role of Presidency of the Endocrinology and Metabolism Association of Turkey. Between 2005-2009 he was in the board of directors of the European Society of Endocrinology and between 2002-2006 the European Neuroendocrine Association. He is currently in the consultative committee of European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society.

Also, since 2013 he has been a member of the European Society of Endocrinology’s “Polycystic Ovary Syndrome” work group. Keleştimur has acquired many national and international awards. Most notable of these are the 2013 Bayındır Medical Award and a 2014 TUBITAK Science Award on Medical Sciences. He has been a guest speaker in about 60 international conferences. In 2012 he was selected for TÜBA Regular Membership, and is also a TÜBA council member.

Prof. Dr. H. Fahrettin Keleştimur is still a lecturer at Erciyes University Medical Faculty Endocrinology and Metabolism Diseases Department and has been the rector of Erciyes University since 2008.

He has 203 articles published in international journals and 89 in national journals.
