The Turkish Physics Organization’s 31st International Physics Conference was held in Bodrum

The Turkish Physics Organization’s 31st International Physics Conference was held on July 21-24 at the City of Bodrum Nurol Culture Center.

The physics conferences organized by the Turkish Physics Organization to congregate the physicists of Turkey, exchange information about the scientific developments of scientists working in the country and abroad and increase opportunities for cooperation with international participation,  accepted 219 verbal and 174 poster communiqués with the participation 720 people, to be evaluated by its scientific board members.

In addition to the 29 Turkish and foreign experts in their fields, to speak at the event a number of master’s and doctorate students and physics scientists participated in the conference attended by Bodrum Mayor Mehmet Kocadon, TÜBA Chairman Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar, Işık University Rector Prof. Dr. Nafiye Güneç Kıyak, Bitlis Eren University Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Doğru, Harran University Rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Halil Mutlu, Amasya University Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Orbay, Scientific Board and Balkan Physics Organization Chairman Prof. Dr. Yeşim Öktem, Organization Committee Chairman Prof. Dr. Suat Özkurucuklu, Consultation Board Chairman Prof. Dr. Pervin Arıkan, Turkish Physics Organization General Chairman Prof. Dr. Baki Akkuş and Journalist Abbas Güçlü.

In the speech made by the Turkish Physics Organization’s 31st International Physics Conference Organization Committee Chairman Prof. Dr. Suat Özkurucuklu, he said ‘We live on a planet where during the past fifty years, informatics technologies, internet and the virtual world have been formed and their limits have become indefinite. Also technologies which will shape the future of humans like nanotechnology and gene technology are the dominant players in the process of development over the past fifty years. The science of physics is the source for all of these developments’.

In her speech Turkish Physics Organization’s 31st International Physics Conference Consultation Board Chairman Prof. Dr. Pervin Arıkan said "In order to realize large scale projects that will carry our country into the future we know we have no choice but to form critical research groups and this is a problem we must solve very soon. A country’s scientific and technological research development potential is directly proportional to its education system and how adaptable it is to the realities of the era” and handed the floor over to the Turkish Physics Organization’s 31st International Physics Conference Science Board Chairman Assoc.Prof. Dr. Yeşim Öktem.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yeşim Öktem said, "The Turkish Physics Organization strives to carry out its public responsibility to the maximum in order for Turkey to be a part of the modern world. In line with this goal we work with great devotion every year to organize events like these with a number of our professors and bring all of our students together. My greatest goal is to help students enjoy physics and scientific research and to enable them to produce studies on these subjects in our country. I hope this conference will be beneficial to all".

The Turkish Physics Organization General Chairman Prof. Dr. Baki Akkuş added; ’A new approach and style of living will emerge in every field that shapes our lives. In the new term countries that are dominant in science and technology with a high capacity for research will shape our world’ and thanked TÜBA Chairman Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar, Bodrum Governor Dr. Mehmet Gödekmerdan, Bodrum Mayor Mehmet Kocadon and the board members and coordinators for their contributions to the event and thanked the local and foreign speakers who had accepted their invitation to the conference as well as the universities and companies who had given their support.

Bodrum Mayor Mehmet Kocadon, who took the stage after Akkuş, said that the City of Bodrum had been proudly hosting the Physics Conference, the 31st of which was being held this year, in cooperation with the Turkish Physics Organization since 2009 and presented TÜBA Chairman Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar. After pointing out that with increasing acceleration, Turkey had made important progress through investments made in the field of research and development and science in recent years and presented the 2014 Turkish Physics Organization Special Honorary Award to Abbas Güçlü.

The Turkish Physics Organization 31st International Physics Conference Awards were presented to the scientists, including TÜBA Associate Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilge Demirköz, by TÜBA Chairman Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar, Bitlis Eren University Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Doğru, Harran University Rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Halil Mutlu, Amasya University Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Orbay, Bodrum Mayor Mehmet Kocadon and Turkish Physics Organization General Chairman Prof. Dr. Baki Akkuş.
