‘The TÜBİTAK 2014 Science and Incentive Awards’ presented to TÜBA members

Erciyes University Rector Prof. Dr. H. Fahrettin Keleştemur, who is a TÜBA Principle Member and also Council Member was awarded the “TÜBİTAK 2014 Science Award” for his study titled ‘Neuroendocrine changes connected to head trauma in the neuroendocrinologic site’ and ODTÜ Engineering Faculty, Department of Chemistry Teaching Staff Member and TÜBA Principle Member Prof. Dr. Timur Doğu received the “TÜBİTAK 2014 Science Award” for his outstanding work at international level in ‘chemical Reaction Engineering”. Also 2008 TÜBA-GEBİP Member Prof. Dr. Özgür Barış Akan, 2009 TÜBA-GEBİP Members; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cansev, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahar Rumelili Sancak, Assoc. Prof Dr. Emrah Ünalan, 2010 TÜBA-GEBİP Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emrah Özensoy, 2012 TÜBA-GEBİP Members; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şahmaran, Assistant Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tamer Uyar and 2014 TÜBA-GEBİP Member Assistant Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülend Ortaç became the recipients of the ‘TÜBİTAK 2014 Incentive Award’.

The evaluations for the year 2014 TÜBİTAK Science, Special and Incentive Awards and TÜBİTAK-TWAS Incentive Awards have been completed. The TÜBİTAK Science Board has decided to present 3 Science Awards, 2 Special Awards and 14 Incentive Awards in the year 2014. No TÜBİTAK-TWAS Incentive Award was presented for this year.

The Science Award for the year 2014, which is awarded to scientists currently living, who have significantly contributed to science at an international level with the research they have conducted in our country is comprised of 50,000 TL, a gold plaque and an award certificate. The recipients of the Science award are also given grants for their research.

The Special Award, which has been created as an equivalent to the Science Award, is presented to citizens, currently living, from the Republic of Turkey who have contributed to science at an international level with the work they have done abroad. The Special Award for 2014 is comprised of 50,000 TL, a gold plaque and an award certificate.

The Incentive Award, which is presented to young scientists, currently living, who have proven they have the qualities to contribute significantly to science at an international level with their research, who are no older than 40 on the first day of the year in which the award is presented. The Incentive Award for 2014 is comprised of 20,000 TL, a gold plaque and an award certificate.

Recipient of the Science Award for his “outstanding work at international level on the subjects of Chemical Reaction Engineering, the effects of heat and mass transfer in processes using porous solid catalyzes, new models developed for non catalytic gas-solid heterogeneous reaction systems, catalytic approaches to new environmentally sensitive products and processes, alternative vehicle fuels from alcohols and synthesis gas, kinetic studies towards the production of valuable chemicals, the removal of soil pollutants and development of meso-porous new catalysts.
