The International Workshop Organized by TÜBA-GEBİP Award Recipients

The international workshop entitled “Muslims, Anti-Muslims and Anti-Immigration Attitudes and the EU” organized by 2014 TÜBA GEBİP Award recipients Political Science and International Relations Department Teaching Staff Member Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Kentmen-Çin and TOBB University Teaching Staff Member Assoc. Prof. Cengiz Erişen  was held on March 11, 2016 at the Izmir Economy University.

At the Workshop organized in the scope of support for meetings concerning international and national scientific work to be coordinated by researchers who had not yet completed their grant period under the GEBİP Award; issues in this sensitive period like the life-threatening risks taken by Syrian refugees to pass EU borders, the Charlie Hebdo shooting and the attack in Paris in November 2016, and anti-Muslim movements like the Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West (PEGIDA) were discussed.

Assoc. Prof. Kentmen-Çin and Assoc. Prof. Erişen were accompanied by leading academics who write on the EU public opinion and voter behavior like Amsterdam University’s Rachid Azrout, Radboud University’s Marcel Lubbers, Zürih University’s Marco Steenbergen and Vrije University’s André Krouwel. Undergraduate and graduate students as well as some non-governmental organizations showed great interest in the workshop held in Izmir.
