The ALLEA 2016 General Assembly took place in Vienna

TÜBA President Prof. Ahmet Cevat Acar and Vice President Prof. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev participated in the All European Academies – ALLEA General Assembly meeting and symposium entitled “Scientific Research Freedom” in Austrian capital Vienna on April 18-19, 2016.

President Prof. Ahmet Cevat Acar, who presented the Austrian Science Academy President Prof. Anton Zeilinger the gift of a CD containing the Turkish print of the “Beçin Definesi” (Beçin Treasure) in 2 volumes and catalogue information that was also printed in German by the Austrian Science Academy, visited the Turkish Ambassador in Vienna Hasan Göğüş and the Director of the Vienna Yunus Emre Institute, Mevlüt Bulut.

On April 18, the Austrian Science Academy Chairman Prof. Anton Zeilinger, Austrian President Heinz Fischer and ALLEA President Günter Stock gave opening speeches for the General Assembly Scientific Symposium entitled “The Freedom of Scientific Research in the Face of Political and Societal Demands.”

The issues on the agenda were discussed at the ALLEA General Assembly held on April 19, 2016 and the board of directors and new member elections were held. Vice President Prof. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev’s presentation titled “European Identity and Turkey” received great interest during the session in which future issues to be discussed by the association were handled. As a result of the elections held during the General Assembly Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland, Germany, Israel, Italy, Holland, Slovakia, Switzerland and England academies were elected to the 2016-2018 term ALLEA board of directors membership. Also, the Royal Norwegian Society of Science and Letters and the Learned Society of Wales were elected as ALLEA’s new members.

The 2017 General Assembly Meeting was decided to be held in Hungary.
