The 2016 IAP General Assembly and International Conference Took Place in South Africa
TÜBA President Prof. Ahmet Cevat Acar and Vice President Prof. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev participated in the 2016 General Assembly and international conference entitled “Science Advice” of the Inter Academies Partnership (IAP), to which TÜBA is a member, on February 28 – March 2, 2016 in Hermanus, South Africa.
The IAP co-chair and Board of Director member elections were also held at the General Assembly. The elections resulted in the 2016-2018 term co-chairs being Prof. Dr. Van ter Meulen (Germany) elected for the second time and Prof. Dr. Krishan Lal (India/AASSA Chairman). For Board memberships; Austria, Brazil, South Korea, Italy, Japan, England, South Africa, Cuba, Iran, Canada, Chile National Science Academies and the African Academy of Sciences were elected from the “industrialized and developing countries” contingent.
The international IAP conference on the subject of “Science Advice” took a look at the advice function of science academies from different aspects. The conference also included such subjects as the IAP strategy plan, IAP’s new structure and issues concerning the “Global Young Academy”.
