The 10th Edition of TÜBA-KED is available on the shelves…

The Turkish Academy of Sciences Culture Inventory Journal (TÜBA-KED) is now available to readers in the 10th edition. The Magazine’s editor and İzmir Katip Çelebi University Turkish-Islam Archeology Department Head, Associate Prof. Dr. Harun Ürer talked about TÜBA-KED’s latest edition…

“Cultural heritage” a concept that has been frequently referred to in recent years by the scientific community as well as other sections of the public, has drawn attention especially with the increase in tourism potential, and become a rising trend throughout the world. The Turkish Culture Sector Project (TÜKSEK), which came to the agenda with the efforts of the late Prof. Dr. Ufuk Esin nearly 16 years ago, completed its structuring in a short time with the support of universities, relevant government offices and nongovernmental organizations under the leadership of TÜBA and started scientific studies throughout Turkey after receiving financial support as of the year 2001. In order to share the valuable scientific results of the study that was done to document cultural assets and all other values with any element of culture within them, TÜBA-KED was drafted and started publication in 2003. The journal published the results of these inventory studies for a time but as of the 8th edition the scope and format were expanded and unique, qualified studies in article format were also published in addition to the inventory work.

Presented to readers for their review, the 10the edition of TÜBA-KED includes a number of innovations. In the new edition of the journal, which does not compromise on its general publication principles and format, the content has been designed to include as many different disciplines as possible in accordance with the wide range of cultural heritage. In the journal, which has also gained a new approach in terms of layout, the articles have been presented to readers by establishing a text-image relation in order to achieve flow and effective expression.

Preserving cultural heritage is also preserving social memory…

Since the concept of “culture”, after which the journal is named, has such a wide scope it can be defined as the mirror of the society it belongs to. Even though “Cultural Heritage” appears to be a definition that mostly describes tangible elements it is a very wide concept that also includes intangible assets. Therefore however lucky TÜBA-KED is in terms of the sources it feeds from, its responsibility is also that much greater. Keeping social memory alive and transferring values and experiences to future generations is not just a scientific responsibility but also a social responsibility. The editor, who sets out with this awareness and ideal and our editorial and consultation boards will continue to work with this same approach in the future editions.

We have gone beyond borders...

In its 10th edition TÜBA-KED greeted readers with content that extended from Crimea to Adana, from the Aegean islands to Ağrı beyond borders. The journal includes 8 valuable works from Ottoman period religious architecture to examples of rural homes, from archeological assets dating back to the 10th century to handwriting from the 19th century. After a meticulous evaluation process by members of our consultation board, who are all experts in their own field, articles were selected from a large number of applicants. No doubt the 10th edition will also shed light on the studies that will be done in these fields as well. The importance of an inventory study that presents a general assessment is great in terms of reaching more accurate results in scientific research to be conducted in the field of social sciences. This is why in future editions TÜBA-KED will continue to work with the same approach and excitement to contribute to culture inventory, especially in Turkey, in line with its purpose for being founded.

TÜBA-KED has undertaken an important mission in studying, documenting and introducing all social values, customs and traditions, and all manner of knowledge concerning life, humans and the natural environment that contain cultural elements without period or geographical limits, and transferring them to the next generation as the community’s common values. At this point the responsibility felt by TÜBA Chairman Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar started the process of restructuring the journal, with the efforts of Deputy Chairman Prof. Dr. Kenan the 10th edition emerged. We hope and have the goal to continue expanding the international nature and scope of our journal and contribute to raising the preservation awareness in this field.

The 11th edition, for which preparations and acceptance for publication are still ongoing, will be available to readers very soon. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the valuable scientists who have chosen our journal in its 10th edition and point out that we are interested in studies on fields within the scope of our journal for our future editions.
