Research Ethics and Integrity Council Meeting in Berlin
The meeting of the Research Ethics and Integrity Council (REIC) of the Alliance of European Academies (ALLEA), of which TÜBA is a member, was hosted by the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Prof. Dr. Zeliha Koçak Tufan attended the meeting on behalf of TÜBA.
The meeting was opened by Prof. Dr. Maura Hiney, Chair of the REIC—established to develop policies and promote best practices in the fields of research ethics and scientific integrity across Europe—and a member of the Royal Irish Academy. Tatjana König, who has been appointed as ALLEA Director, also attended the meeting and shared her insights.
The agenda included a review of the work conducted by ALLEA’s former working group, the “Permanent Working Group on Science and Ethics (PWGE),” as well as discussions on the processes for updating the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity, REIC’s mission, areas of activity, and future roadmap. During the meeting, a working group was established to update the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity, with Prof. Dr. Zeliha Koçak Tufan among its members. Prof. Dr. Tufan noted that participants from various countries discussed a range of recommendations and opportunities for collaboration regarding research ethics, academic freedom, and scientific responsibility, and stated that TÜBA’s inclusion in the group is significant for strengthening Türkiye’s international contributions in the fields of research ethics and scientific integrity.
