“Course in Applied Science Education " from TÜBA to the Teachers

TÜBA, within the framework of the protocol signed with Ministry of National Education (MEB), under TUBA Science Education Program; holds the “Course in Applied Science Education" for secondary school science teachers. The course that aims to contribute to the evidence-based learning and activating the basic science education is going to be performed between 25-29 May at the Ankara Gazi University, Education Faculty.

The course will be provided to 20 teachers selected by the Ministry of Education during the 5 days by 15 academic experts who are serving in different education faculties and Members of the TUBA Science Education Working Group; Prof. Dr. Erol Pehlivan and  TUBA Associate Member Prof. Dr. Hayrunnisa Bolay Belen.

TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar and the Principal Member and Science Education Working Group Executive Prof. Dr. Mustafa Safran are going to make an opening speech on the first day of the Course on 25 May that the officials of MEB will also attend.

On the first and second day of the course, which will last until May 29; ‘Science, New Methods in Science Education, Research Inquiry Processes, Assessment and Evaluation' issues will be emphasized and at the end of the second day sky observation will be made at Ankara University Observatory. On the third day Physics, fourth day Chemistry and the fifth day Biology teachers will perform one to one practical experiments.

TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar said in a statement on the issue, "In general education and in particular the effectiveness of science education is an important issue. In recent years, especially regarding making the basic science education and training at all levels more effective and attractive in Turkey and in the world is one of the most important issues that needs to be addressed. With TUBA Science Education Program, activities are foreseen to render the science education more effective and attractive especially at the level of primary and secondary education. In this context, especially improving the teachers’ educational qualifications by bringing them in new methods and approaches has an important place.

Our science education program will continue with the activities in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and other partners; if necessary, administrators, students and parents can also participate."

The Science Education Program that is carried out by TÜBA Science Education Working Group is expected to continue with different participants and activities.
