A “Special TÜBA Session” at the 2nd International Congress on Stem Cell and Cellular Therapies…

At the ‘2nd International Congress on Stem Cell and Cellular Therapies’, organized by the Stem Cell and Cellular Therapies Association on October 15-18 at the Kaya Palazzo Golf Resort in Antalya under the chairmanship of TÜBA Council Member Prof. Dr. Fikrettin Şahin; a ‘Special TÜBA Session’ will be held in which scientists doing research on stem cells and cellular therapies in Turkey will present their studies.

During the ‘Special Session’ organized in cooperation with the Academy, the first speech will be given by Özgür Bakar and TÜBA Stem Cell Study Group Member Ercüment Ovalı. The Session will also include TÜBA Stem Cell Study Group Member Mustafa Çetin’s presentation titled ‘New Views on Mesenchymal Stem Cell Applications in the Field of Hematology, Alp Can’s speech on the ‘Study of Alternative MSC Sources for Heart Treatment’, Işık Akgün’s presentation and Zeynep Burçin Gönen’s ‘Mesenchymal Stem Cell Applications in Regenerative Medicine’, Ekrem Ünal’s ‘Clinical Applications of the T Cell’ and Murat Kantarcıoğlu’s ‘From Stem Cell Studies to Gastroenterology Applications’.

Dr. Fikrettin Şahin, the Chairman of the ‘2nd International Congress on Stem Cell and Cellular Therapies’ and Yeditepe University Teaching Staff Member, who spoke at the Congress, said “Stem cells are the main cells, which are undifferentiated and have the ability to divide quickly, regenerate and transform to other specialized cell types by differentiation, that have a role in the formation of all tissues and organs in living organisms. Recent scientific studies have proven that if suitable environmental and growing conditions are provided these cells can transform to different types and be used in cellular/gene therapy”.

The ‘2nd International Congress on Stem Cell and Cellular Therapies’, organized in line with these developments, unites academicians, researchers, sector representatives, physicians, and professional scientists conducting international R&D studies on stem cell and gene therapy products, developing technology, methods and protocols, clinical applications and ethical issues and solutions; and opens up the current developments to discussion. In addition to presentations on stem cell research by Nobel Prize candidates, panel discussions and poster presentations are included in the congress. The deadline for sending summaries to the Congress is September 20, 2015.
