A Science Award for Turkish Young Academy Member Prof. Dr. İsmail Öçsoy
Turkish Young Academy Member Prof. Dr. İsmail Öçsoy has been presented with the Science Award by the Turkish Pharmacists’ Association (TEB) Academy of Pharmacy.
At the 2025 Science, Service and Incentive Awards Ceremony, the awards—conferred to “evaluate the distinguished research, academic work and services of scientists who conduct research in the field of pharmaceutical sciences and/or who are members of these fields; to highlight to the public the outstanding qualifications of individuals who contribute to the pharmacy profession; and to serve as an incentive”—were presented to their recipients.
Prof. Dr. İsmail Öçsoy, a faculty member at Erciyes University, Faculty of Pharmacy, received the Science Award in recognition of his scientific research and studies, which have made significant global contributions to the field of pharmaceutical sciences.
Who is Prof. Dr. İsmail Öçsoy?
Prof. Dr. İsmail Öçsoy completed his master’s (2011) and doctoral (2014) studies in the United States at the University of Florida in the field of Nanobiotechnology under the supervision of leading scientist Prof. Dr. Weihong Tan. He began his academic career as an Assistant Professor at Erciyes University Faculty of Pharmacy in 2015, became an Associate Professor in 2017 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2023. In 2015–2016, he was invited back to the United States and served as a visiting faculty member at the University of Florida.
Prof. Dr. Öçsoy was selected as a National Leading Researcher in 2022 within the scope of the 2247-A National Leading Researchers Program with his project and research on Mycobacterium tuberculosis, becoming one of Türkiye’s 31 National Leading Researchers. In the same year, he was appointed as a Member of the Scientific Board on “Medical Devices and Diagnostic Kits” of the Health Institutes of Türkiye (TÜSEB).
He received the TÜBA GEBİP Outstanding Young Scientist Award in 2018, the METU Prof. Dr. Mustafa Parlar Education and Research Foundation Research Incentive Award in 2019, and the Science Academy (BAGEP) Young Scientist Award as well as the Science Heroes Association Scientist of the Year Award in 2020.
In 2021, he became Türkiye’s first-place winner in the “Medical Innovation and Discoveries” category at the JCI-Türkiye TOYP (Ten Outstanding Young Persons) Awards. He received the TÜSEB Aziz Sancar Incentive Award in 2022, the Health Initiative Awards – Doctor Club Award for R&D / Innovation of the Year in 2023, and in 2024 the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation Best Research Article Award in Chemistry, as well as the TÜBA–TEKNOFEST Doctoral Science Awards – Doctoral Thesis Award (Advisor).
According to Google Scholar, Prof. Dr. Öçsoy has 6,835 citations and an H-index of 48, and he represents Türkiye as a Management Committee (MC) Member in three COST Actions under the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST).
