A Contract Has Been Signed for the Preparation for Publication of Prof. Dr. Andrea Tietze’s ‘Historical and Etymological Dictionary of Turkish’

TÜBA has signed a contract with Prof. Dr. Semih Tezcan to undertake the preparation for publication of Andreas Tietze’s 8 volume ‘Historical and Etymological Dictionary of Turkish’ project.

Born in 1914 in Vienna, Prof. Dr. Andreas Tietze continued his deep interest in the Turkish language and culture until his death and created the ‘Historical and Etymological Dictionary of Turkish’, the most significant and comprehensive work to date comprised of 7 dictionary volumes and 1 index volume. According to the contract signed with Prof. Dr. Tezcan, the preparation for publication work will start on October 1, 2015 and the printing of the 8 volumes will be completed on October 31, 2017.

TÜBA began corresponding with the heirs of Prof Tietze in 2013 about completing this project with an 8 volume production and in 2014 a contract was made in April with Simurg Kitapçılık ve Yayıncılık Ltd. and Prof. Tietze’s daughter Dr. Fatma Filiz Tietze  and in August with the Austrian Academy of Sciences to take over all legal rights and documents for printed volumes and further volumes to be printed.

The 1st volume (letters A-E), of the Dictionary, which is a major work including Turkish vocabulary dating back to the 14th century, Rumelian and the Turkish spoken in neighbor countries like Iraq and Azerbaijan, was printed in 2002 by the Austrian Academy of Sciences and Simurg Publishing House; the 2nd volume (letters F-J) was printed in 2010 by the Austrian Academy of Sciences .
