TÜBA Vice-President Prof. Yurdusev Attended "I. H. R. Network Meeting”
The 12th meeting organized by the the International Human Rights Network of Academies and Scholarly Societies - I. H. R. Network every two years was held on 5-8 October 2016 in Panama City with the attendance of TÜBA Vice-President Prof. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev. At the meeting, issues of human rights issues of scientists and scientists' contributions to human rights were discussed extensively throughout the world. Prof. Yurdusev presented a paper entitled "Freedom of Speech, Scientific Excellence and Responsibilities of Scientists: The Turkish Case" and pointed out that freedom of expression is one of the most fundamental human rights and that it is important to protect it legally. Prof. Yurdusev emphasized that freedom of expression can be said to be universal as a value and showed that the legal guardianship changed in practice through examples of America and Europe. Yurdusev also provided information on human rights issues in the Turkish science community.
It is decided that the next meeting will be held in Seoul, the capital of South Korea in 2018.
