TÜBA Vice-President Prof. Yurdusev Attended 2nd Forum of Social Sciences "The Great Steppe"

TÜBA Vice-President Prof. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev attended the 2nd Forum of Social Sciences "The Great Steppe" that was held by International Turkic Academy with the contributions of Turkish Historical Society and Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) on May 26, 2017, in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.

The experts and scientists from the USA, Germany, China, Hungary, Mongolia, South Korea, India and Russia, as well as the Turkish world participated the forum, which was held in six panels.

Prof. Yurdusev emphasized on the historical development and concept of Turkish identity in Turkey in his speech on the theme of "Turkish Identity in Turkey" which he made in the forum. Prof. Yurdusev stated that the Turkish identity developed and understood in three different categories in Turkey from the 12th century and these categories are collective-linguistic identity, religious identity and national identity.

Prof. Yurdusev said that the conception of tribal-linguistic Turkishness is the oldest and widespread form and that it covers groups of people born of Turkish parents who speak Turkish language and that the Turkish identity is equalized with Islam. Prof. Yurdusev also argued that Turkish identity had been formed since the 12th century and that Turkish identity, together with the definition of national identity, became political in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the age of nationalism and was linked to nation-states.
