Memorial Conference for TÜBA Honorary Member Prof. Hazai and Opening of György Hazai Library
TÜBA President Prof. Ahmet Cevat Acar attended the Memorial Conference for TÜBA Honorary Member Prof. György Hazai and the opening ceremony of the György Hazai Library held by Andrássy University and Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest on May 25, 2017.
TÜBA President Prof. Acar mentioned about the contributions of TÜBA Honorary Member deceased Prof. Hazai to Turcology and science in his speech at the conference and added that he had the honor of acknowledging Prof. Hazai and his membership of TÜBA. Prof. Acar also expressed his respect and gratitude for the works, values, contributions and different perspectives that Prof. Hazai gave to the Turkish world. Stating that the works “Ferec ba’deş Şidde” by Hazai and Tietze and “Tezkiretül Evliya ve Tarih-i Engürüs” by Tietze will be published by TÜBA soon, Prof. Acar said that Turcology Yearbook, edited by Hazai and Tietze and donated to TÜBA, will be presented to the world of science and he also thanked Hazai family, his daughters Kinga and Cecilia and all stakeholders for possessing the inheritance of Hazai and organizing these events.
The program was started with the greeting and opening speeches of Prof. Dietmar Meyer, Rector of the Andrássy Gyula University and Prof. Miklós Maróth, Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The program continued with the presentation of Prof. Barbara Kellner-Heinkele, Professor of the Freie Universität Berlin on “The Charm of Rare Manuscripts” The other presentations were “The Online Bibliography of Ottoman Literature: Curating the Study of Ottoman Texts” by Prof. Hatice Aynur, Professor of Istanbul Ṣehir Üniversitesi, Istanbul, “Turko-Mongol Chancelleries in the Timurid States” by Prof. István Vásáry, Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Ambassador, “Wolf on the Border: Yahya Paşa oğlu Bali Bey (?–1527). Expansion and Provincial Elite in the European Confines of the Ottoman Empire in the Early Sixteenth Century” by Prof. Pál Fodor, Director General of the Research Centre for Humanities of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, “The Last Meeting of the Sultan and His Hungarian Protégé, 1566: Some Thoughts on the Relations between Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and János Zsigmond the Elected King of Hungary” by Dr. János Hóvári, Lecturer of the Károli Gáspár Reformed Church University, Budapest, Ambassador, “A New Source on the Ottoman-Habsburg Long War of 1593-1606: The Diary (Rûznâme) of Sultan Mehmed III’s Imperial Campaign in 1596” by Prof. Günhan Börekci, Professor of the Central European University, Budapest. At the end of the conference, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Vice-President Professor. Isa Habibbeyli and TÜBA President Prof. Ahmet Cevat Acar addressed to the participants.
After the conference on the memory of Hazai's 85th birthday, the opening of the György Hazai Library, founded with the support of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), was held at Hazai's house with the participations of Representatives of Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Hungary Science Academies, TÜBA President Prof. Acar, diplomatic mission representatives of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, TİKA Hungary representatives, Budapest IX. District Mayor and Hazai family.
