Symposium on the Role of Science Academies in the Future of Basic Sciences by TÜBA & AASSA

In cooperation with AASSA and with the support of IAP, TÜBA will hold the international symposium on "The Role of Science Academies in the Future of Basic Sciences" in conjunction with AASSA General Assembly Meeting in Istanbul.

The international symposium on "The Role of Science Academies in the Future of Basic Sciences" and the AASSA General Assembly Meeting, organized by TÜBA in cooperation with the Association of Asian Science Academies and Societies (AASSA) and with the support of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP), will bring together scientists at Istanbul University on 28-29 April 2023.

The symposium, which will consist of four sessions, will feature a large number of scientific contributions from universities in Türkiye as well as science academies, science foundations and universities from various countries such as India, Russia, Romania, Montenegro, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Thailand, and Morocco.

The symposium will be organized to contribute to the appreciation of basic sciences and discussions on related disciplines, and to raise awareness on the role of science academies for the future of basic sciences. Participants will present papers with multidisciplinary approaches to the place and future of basic sciences in the context of their own countries and science academies, ranging from geothermal energy to climate change, sustainable development to inclusive and equitable education.

At the end of the sessions, a general evaluation will be made; various action plans and recommendations will be reviewed for the future of basic sciences and the contribution of academies. The program will end on April 30 with a Bosphorus Boat Tour organized by TÜBA.
