President Şeker at the IAP General Assembly

TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker attended the Triennial Conference and InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) General Assembly in Arizona Biosphere2 on 1-3 November 2022 as part of the science diplomacy mission of the Turkish Academy of Sciences.

As a member of the Inter-Academy Partnership, TÜBA plays important roles in international associations. In this context, TÜBA represents Turkey in the board of directors and scientific committees. TÜBA Principal Member, nominated by TÜBA in the last elections, AASSA (The Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia) President and METU Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev to the Advisory Board of IAP, TÜBA Academy Council Member and Bilkent University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Pınar Bilgin was elected as a member of the Policy and Suggestion Development Committee.

The theme of the conference, hosted by the US National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and the Royal Canadian Society (RSC), in collaboration with the IAP and the Global Young Academy, is "Inclusive Excellence: Leveraging knowledge for sustainable societies". Bringing together the world's leading senior and junior science academies, the conference offered participants an important opportunity to rethink their research forms. In addition to the special sessions focused on IAP and GYA projects, sessions were held, among proposals from senior and junior academies, such as climate change, pandemic preparedness, and improving human health and education accessibility, which epitomize the power of inclusive excellence frameworks to help address global challenges.
