TÜBA Principal Member Prof. Ersöz Elected as “COST Scientific Committee Vice President”

TÜBA Principal Member and Selçuk University Faculty of Science Department of Chemistry Faculty Member Prof. Mustafa Ersöz was elected as COST Scientific Committee Vice President at voting results in the 5th Meeting of Cooperation in Science and Technology – COST Scientific Committee, held in Brussels on 31 May – 1 June, 2017.
In the election of four candidates, Prof. Jarri Hamalainen from Finland, who was previously COST Vice President was elected as the president with the highest vote and Prof. Ersöz was elected as vice-president with second highest vote.
Prof. Mustafa Ersöz stated that the works are conducted for Inclusiveness Target countries, ITC to take active roles in COST projects and to achieve greater participation in Turkey under the COST mission. He emphasized that one of the most important works of the COST Scientific Committee is identification of strategic priority areas within the scope of the European Research Area and preparation of the strategic document of the next 10 years. He also said that Europe's research and innovation capacity is strengthened; and the general science and technology programs have been developed. He also expressed his commitment to contribute to the goals of Horizon 2020 with new approaches and new trends in the solution of social problems.
COST, for which the scientific coordination in Turkey is provided by TÜBİTAK, was established in 1971 to provide coordination at a European level for research projects that are supported with national resources and to support the joint work of European scientists; and operates with the mission of reinforcing scientific and technical research for peaceful objectives by supporting interaction and cooperation between European researchers.
The COST Scientific Committee advises the COST High Level Representatives Committee on the selection and execution of COST projects, advancing the European Research Field on a global level, conducting scientific excellence in Europe, providing contributions to scientific and technical activities and supporting the European research community in the possible way. As a cooperation program that has been continuing in scientific cooperation for the longest period and comprises the European Research Field, COST also aims to develop interaction and cooperation with researchers in countries beyond the EU like America, Australia, New Zealand and Russia.
