The Nomination Process for the 2017 TÜBA International Academy Prizes Has Started

The process of nomination for the 2017 TÜBA International Academy Prizes, which has given within the framework of appreciation and encouragement of scientists by TÜBA, started today. The nomination process will run until May 29, 2017.
TÜBA President Prof. Ahmet Cevat Acar made the following statement: “The awards program that we launched in 2015 within the scope of the mission of TÜBA to reward and develop Turkey's international scientific relations considering Turkey's need for international science, attracted great interest in our country and international academies. Last year, Prof. Şerif Mardin, Şehir University Faculty Member, has been awarded in the category of Social Sciences and Humanities for the 2016 TÜBA International Academy Prize in recognition of his works in contributions of sociology and political sciences to institutionalism in Turkey, modernity and religion, civil society ideology and, center-periphery and neighborhood-school relations in Turkey, Prof. Mary-Claire King, University of Washington (USA) Faculty Member, has been awarded in the category of Health and Life Sciences for the 2016 TÜBA International Academy Prize in recognition of her studies and inventions in recognition of hereditary breast cancer gene BRCA1, protein examination and identification of similarity ratios between species, development of unique identities based on DNA analysis and Prof. Omar M. Yaghi, Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, has been awarded in the category of Basic and Engineering Sciences for the 2016 TÜBA International Academy Prize in recognition of his pioneering and groundbreaking work in the field of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs), zeolitic imidazolate frameworks and covalent organic frameworks. We are expecting more attention for the awards from the international academy and university community this year that we are meticulously carried out with the ceremony held under the auspices of the Presidency and we would like to thank Mr. President and the world of science for their interest and support.”
The TÜBA International Academy Prizes are given to the owners at the "TÜBA Awards Ceremony" with the Outstanding Young Scientists Awards (TÜBA-GEBİP) and the Best Authored Book Awards (TÜBA-TESEP) held in the Presidential Complex under the auspices of the Presidency since 2015. TÜBA International Academy Prizes are annually given to three of the nominated scientists each being in one of the following categories of sciences namely Basic and Engineering Sciences, Health and Life Sciences and Social Sciences and Humanities.
The 2017 TÜBA International Academy Prize, Turkey-related, will be given to the Basic and Engineering Sciences category.
The studies and contributions of nominated scientists are determined by the Academy Council by taking opinions of domestic and foreign referees in the TÜBA Award Committees. The awards consist Academy Award Medal, Academy Award Charter and approximately $30,000, are given to the owners at the ceremony organized under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey at Presidential Complex.
TÜBA International Academy Prizes are given to the scientists with original, leading and path-breaking works in their fields and one of the prizes is awarded to scientists with Turkish connection every year, meaning the scientist who works in Turkey and/or studies Turkey. The nominations for the prizes are made by TÜBA members, the university rectorates in Turkey, academies, and inter-academy organizations with which TÜBA is in cooperation and other science institutions and scientists invited as nominators. Members of TÜBA and those who take part in the evaluation process of the prizes cannot be nominated.
