Winners of TÜBA GEBIP and TÜBA TESEP Awards Announced

Winners of 2017 Awards for Outstanding Young Scientists (TÜBA GEBIP) and Awards for Best Books of the year (TÜBA TESEP) have been announced. This year 39 scientists have received the award under the GEBIP program, and 3 works have been awarded under the TESEP program.
Stating that the rewarding outstanding scientific achievements are among the most important function of science academies in the world and of TÜBA as well, TÜBA President Professor Ahmet Cevat Acar said that TÜBA Awards are conducted with this understanding and have a special and respected position in the scientific world. Adding that the awards ceremony is carried out under the auspices of the Presidency, he continued his words as follow: “39 outstanding young scientists from 19 different universities are deemed worthy of TÜBA GEBİP Award, and three scientific books are deemed worth of TÜBA TESEP Award. Thus, the number of young scientists who won the TÜBA Awards have reached 443 and the number of awarded books have reached 189. Having a prestigious position in the world of science, TÜBA Awards have a special importance in terms of promoting and developing cooperation of our country in the international science community encouraging qualified young scholars and providing them to continue their works in Turkey and writing of qualified Turkish scientific works. The awards will be given to the owners with the ceremony held under the auspices of the Presidency.”
Underlining that there is a call for 2018 TÜBA-GEBİP and TÜBA-TESEP Awards, Prof. Acar emphasized that the applications will be accepted by 8 January 2018. He also said that “TÜBA-GEBİP has a limit of 39 years, but one year will be added to the age limit of female candidates for each birth.”
TÜBA-GEBIP Awards; have been given since 2001 with the aim of promoting and encouraging outstanding young scientists working in the fields of Nature, Engineering, Health Sciences and Social Sciences, to carry out their scientific studies in Turkey, to create their working groups and to award quality projects and publications from Turkey. Recipients of the GEBİP Awards are given a grant of 20,000 TL per year for 3 years, additional financial aid totaling 6,000 TL for the doctorate students in thesis process of GEBİP owners under the original and highly demanded program. The academy members also provide counseling to the recipients.
TÜBA-TESEP Awards; are given to encourage the writing and publication of Turkish scientific authored books at the university level in all scientific fields. The program has been implemented as TEÇEP since 2008, is applied only to authored works in the name of TÜBA-TESEP by 2017. It was also decided to give “Halil İnalcık Special Award” in the field of Social Sciences. In 2017, TESEP and Halil İnalcık Special Award was determined as 20,000 TL, and honorable mention award was determined as 7,000 TL.
