21st International Conference on “Science, Technology and Innovation for Global Peace and Prosperity” jointly organized by TÜBA & Islamic World Academy of Sciences (IAS) and Necmettin Erbakan University (NEU) was held in Konya between October 8-11.

TÜBA President Prof. Ahmet Cevat Acar “All kinds of cooperation, including the fields of science and technology, are extremely necessary among the Islamic World countries”
Speaking at the open ceremony of conference, TÜBA President Prof. Ahmet Cevat Acar underlined that science, technology and innovation are essential for global peace for the welfare and development of all countries. He continued his speech: “Islamic countries show significant differences according to scientific and technological development and prosperity levels. Most of them use only technology, but they do not produce technology. In addition, domestic and regional stability and peace are important for scientific and technological development and prosperity. Unfortunately, the Islamic world is not in good shape with regard to it. As of today, the Islamic world is intended to be Balkanized and disintegrated through hybrid wars, and in this direction all Islamic countries face a struggle. In this process, all kinds of cooperation, including the fields of science and technology, are extremely necessary among the Islamic World countries. We have to improve the relationship and cooperation between our universities and scientific institutions. International organizations established by the Islamic World countries need to work more effectively. We should see our differences as a source of wealth without conflict, and we must strengthen our "brotherhood". We have to increase our joint activities like this.”

NEU Rector Prof. Muzaffer Şeker “The cooperation to be carried out by the Islamic world countries is very important, and these studies will bring peace and economic richness in science, technology and art.”
NEU Rector Prof. Muzaffer Şeker stated that during the four days of conferences, many subjects from life sciences to natural sciences and basic sciences were examined by scientists from 30 different countries. He added: “The titles we discussed during the conference have lots of importance and they are related to not only the Islamic world but the whole world. We know that Muslim countries have natural resources especially because of their geographical location, and these resources are occupied by terrorist groups. How we stand up under these difficult conditions depends essentially on the efforts of the scientists. The cooperation to be carried out by the Islamic world countries is very important, and these studies will bring peace and economic richness in science, technology and art.”

Following the opening speeches, the President of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) Prof. Ahmet Arif Ergin presented his presentation on “Innovation Agenda of Turkey” and after the presentation “IAS-COMSTECH Ibrahim Memorial Award” was given.

Many topics were discussed in six sessions and two workshops
At the conference, there were participants from Islamic countries such as Turkey, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Iran, Palestine, Tunisia, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Tunisia, Malaysia and Pakistan as well as scientists who carry out scientific studies in Russia, Europe and America. The four-day conference was dealt with in six sessions and two workshops on many topics, such as the changing role of universities, the social sciences in Islamic world, the future of medical education, R&D, technology and innovation in the Middle East, science culture and Mevlana.

The conference was ended with a workshop on “Science Culture in Islamic World” moderated by Prof. Abdel Salam Majali and the participation of Prof. Muzaffer Şeker, Prof. Bilal Kuşpınar, Prof. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev, Prof. Münir Öztürk and Dr. Moneef R. Zou’bi on October 11.
