Ministry of Development decided to support "R & D and Application Center on Cellular Therapies and Gene Therapies" project that will be carried out with the cooperation of TÜBA Council Member and Yeditepe University, Head of Department of Genetics and Bioengineering Prof. Fikrettin Şahin, Assoc. Prof. Gülderen Yanıkkaya Demirel from Yeditepe University, Faculty of Medicine and 10 assistant scientists.
With the project, "Yeditepe University Development and Application Center on Cellular Therapies and Gene Therapies Research, "is planned to develop new cellular therapies and gene therapies and to establish a genetic infrastructure for the purpose of carrying out studies to rapidly transfer newly developed products from the laboratory to the clinic.
For the first time in Turkey, cellular gene therapy products and protocols to be used in the treatment of cancer and many genetic diseases will be developed and produced in the laboratories planned to be established within the scope of the project. In addition, national and international preclinical and clinical phase studies of these products will be possible.
From this center, Yeditepe University Hospital and hospitals in Turkey and neighboring countries will be given cellular gene therapy products and services. The center will also be able to represent Turkey in many international R & D, preclinical and clinical studies.
