TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar and Vice President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev participated in the expedition and field seminar “Historical Riches of the Nomads of Great Plains: From Tian Shan to Otukan” held in Mongolia, at the invitation of the International Turkic Academy (ITA).

Participants, who met in Ulaanbaatar, included prominent Turcologists and archaeologists, academy members and directors of international organizations from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Mongolia and Russia, as well as representatives of local and international press.

After meetings and cultural programs held in Ulaanbaatar, the capital, participants went to Shveet Ulaan Collection of Monuments where archaeological expedition took place.

New finds discovered by archaeologists during the two years of excavations carried out in the excavation site, where monuments by ancients Turks are found, were presented in detail in the 2nd Field Seminar by Turkish and Mongolian Archaeologists titled “Nomads of Great Plains: Historical and Cultural Adaptation”, held on August 24 within the framework the ITA’s project.

Khoshoo Tsaidam Museum on the Göktürk period was founded in 2008 in Khashaat district of the province of Arkhangai, within the framework of the project Turkish Monuments in Mongolia (MOTAP) run by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA). Bilge Khagan Highway between the Khoshoo Tsaidam Museum and Kharkhorin district of the province of Övörkhangai was built with a grant from the government of the Republic of Turkey.
An agreement was signed between TİKA and the Directorship of the Khoshoo Tsaidam Museum concerning the Khoshoo Tsaidam Museum Support Project. As part of this project, Bilge Khagan Highway and museum signs, which were damaged by the harsh climate and winds, were renewed. A fully furnished Mongolian tent with six walls was donated to the Khoshoo Tsaidam Museum to present Mongolian customs and traditions to foreign visitors and tourists, and a 40-ton container to store the Museum’s tents and equipment. Steps were taken to present Göktürk historical and cultural heritage in Mongolia to the world, and to improve the capacity of the Museum.

The opening ceremony was attended by TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar, TÜBA Vice President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev, TİKA Vice President Mehmet Süreyya Er, TİKA Ulaanbaatar Program Coordinator Veysel Çiftci, President of Turkish Historical Society Prof. Dr. Refik Turan, President of International Turkish Academy Prof. Dr. Darhan Kıdırali, Khoshoo Tsaidam Museum Director Narangerel Turhuu, representatives from Erdene Zuu and Kharkhorin museums, and members of the press.
