 TUBA's Foresight Study in Social Sciences: A Pioneering Study of its Kind

The foresight studies conducted in the area of social sciences did not have a precedence on a worldwide basis, and hence could not benefit from the availability of a uniform method of application. Therefore, TUBA was obliged to develop its own method for its Social Sciences Foresight Study which aimed to provide guidance to the synergy that is required for the purpose of raising the performance level of social sciences in Turkey and for the accomplishment of their objectives.

In its meeting held on October 23, 2005, the TUBA Academic Council decided to conduct a "Social Sciences Foresight Project;" also supported by the SPO (State Planning Organization). This foresight study had the aim to formulate the important developments anticipated to take place within the context of social sciences in medium and long terms, and consult specialists regarding the likely impacts of such developments. During the initial stage, study groups were formed in the areas of Economics; Psychology and Cognitive Sciences; Sociology, Anthropology and Cultural Studies; History and Political Sciences. The project "Foresight Study in Social Sciences: 2003- 2023" was completed and its final report published in 2007.
