“The main purpose of the Turkish Science Terms Dictionary Project is to improve the use of Turkish as a language of science and education”
TÜBA President Prof. Ahmet Cevat Acar said “The main purpose of the Turkish Science Terms Dictionary Project is to improve the use of Turkish as a language of science and education. Within this framework, we aim to contribute to the realization of sub-goals such as setting common ground for scientific terms, stopping the term turmoil, stopping the invasion of foreign languages and preparing a ground for the development of a proper science style in the Turkish language. With this dictionary, we aim to collect, produce and present Turkish terms of basic sciences such as Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, Zoology, Botany and Biology as a reference source to the scientific community. While choosing the Turkish terms for the related fields, the words which are accepted on the widest scale and reflecting the concept in a transparent way were searched. This glossary was prepared so that definitions of terms were inclusive, didactic, including details indicating the differences between concepts. In addition, the terms of the Turkish, German, English and French synonyms were given.” Prof. Acar ended his words as: “The use and development of Turkish as the language of education and science is of great importance for our scientific and total development. We believe that improving the Turkish scientific terms is an important task. I would like to thank all of our scientists and employees for their contributions to this subject, which is of great importance for our national science and cultural potential.”
