The Young Scientists Award Programme (GEBIP) of TÜBA was launched in 2001. Every year TÜBA organizes a meeting open to the public, with the participation of the past and present awardees of this Programme which is a kind of Young Academy. This meeting is held every year at a different university in Turkey. It provides an opportunity for young scientists to share their latest research results with each other, with Academy Members and with all interested participants. The 8th Annual Meeting was held in Zonguldak, at Karaelmas University, between 25-27 September 2009.  Four parallel sessions were organized with 42 presentations from all scientific disciplines.

A separate session was held this year to introduce the GEBIP Programme and the European Young Academy project with the participation of Dr. Rüdiger Klein, Executive Director of All European Academies (ALLEA) and Prof. Dr. Hans Hilgenkamp representing the Dutch  Young  Academy. The meeting ended with a final evaluation session on 27 September 2009 where young scientists expressed their views on Young Academy as well as pointing out to some common problems faced by young researchers.
